Program Assistant of the Year
This award is presented annually to an RC&D Program Assistant that exemplifies the spirit of the RC&D by “Making Things Happen” in their RC&D area.
Becky Koons, Bitter Root RC&D Council, Montana
In reading the applications for the Outstanding Performance by a Program Assistant, selecting a winner was not an easy task. Very few points separated the top two candidates. The winner is a person that inspires others through her positive, upbeat attitude and her ability to lead by example. She has been responsible for the development and implementation of several projects and has helped in finding over $1.0 million in grants. Always looking for innovative solutions to deal with sticky problems, she has provided valuable suggestions for numerous forestry related situations. Another area in which she excels is in publicity for the council. She prepared, edited and published numerous year-end reports and program evaluations, in addition to newsletters, brochures, flyers and educational publications.
As a result of her tremendous effort on behalf of the RC&D, Becky was appointed as the council’s Executive Director, filling the vacancy left when Congress no longer funded the RC&D program.
She is an excellent role model for a program assistant and the Association is proud to give the 2011 Outstanding Program Assistant Award to Becki Koons of the Bitter Root RC&D Area in Montana.
